Special Events: June 27 - ZenKitchen official opening!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear friend of ZenKitchen,
What's it like opening a restaurant? Well it's sort of like being on a
roller coaster - the anxiety, the rush, the excitement, the
exhilaration, the relief - but then just as you think you are getting
off it starts again, and again and again. But the good thing, as we're
riding this roller coaster, we can see and feel the support of a
community of people that want us to open and succeed and this keeps us
going on the hardest and most exhausting of days. By the way, we raised
over $20,000 through the Community Supported Restaurant initiative,
which is now closed, and this has been tremendously helpful in paying
for the endless start up and opening costs.
After dealing with complicated spreadsheets and application forms,
endless bills and meetings with suppliers, a host of contractors,
professionals and inspectors coming in and out of our space, having to
deal with daily issues and urgencies that seem to pop up out of nowhere,
and getting used to being covered with drywall dust at a the end of a
long day, we finally see the end in sight. The colourful painting of the
walls is well underway, the patio that has been restored, the beautiful
locally handcrafted pieces are arriving one by one...today we were
delighted to receive the beautiful bar area and bathroom pieces. And,
with the refreshing of the kitchen almost complete we can start to use
the kitchen to test and prepare food for you. So, this all means we can
finally set a date for our grand opening!
Actually, because we know that so many people want to share in the
celebration of our opening, we've decided to make it a 4 day grand
opening extravaganza, and we hope that you can be a part of it!
We'll start with "soft openings" on two days (Thursday June 25 and
Friday June 26). These are kind of like dress rehearsals, allowing us to
work as a team for the first time and fine tune our dishes and service
standards. Both nights will be exciting, unique experiences and your
feedback will help us in the development of ZenKitchen.
Saturday and Sunday, June 27 and 28, will be our first publicly open
evenings. We hope to have some media attend, as well as some new
initiates to the ZenKitchen palette.
How to reserve for the openings... Please reserve your place for the
June 25-28 evenings by sending an email to dinners@zenkitchen.ca. We
will be open between 5pm and 10 pm. Reservations are available on a
first come, first serve basis. Please indicate the number of people and
preferred time for seating.
Buzz... We know that you have been telling your friends, family,
colleagues and neighbours about ZenKitchen, and the collective buzz is
getting louder and louder about our opening, so thank you, thank you,
and thank you. Keep up the good work!
Life after the opening... After the opening, we will be open for
regular dinner service starting from July 1. Our regular dinner service
days and hours are: Wednesday-Sunday, with 5-10 pm on Wednesday,
Thursday and Sunday, and 5-11 pm on Friday and Saturday. To keep the
spirit of the monthly dinners, along with regular tables, there will be
a large harvest communal table, where new and old friends of ZenKitchen
can continue to gather round to unwind and connect with one another
while savouring a carefully prepared meal made with passion and heart.
We will have an on-line reservation system up shortly as part of a
transition to a renewed web site (still www.zenkitchen.ca), however for
now you can make reservations by emailing us at dinners@zenkitchen.ca or
calling us at 613-233-6404.
Cooking classes and other events....On some Tuesday nights, we will be
holding cooking classes. I hope to have those up and running shortly and
I'll let those on our email list know about them first. We will also be
holding special events such as wine and beer tastings and live music
evenings, and if you have some suggestions we'd love to hear about them.
We'll also make our space available for meetings, retreats, lunches and
events, so please contact info@zenkitchen.ca if you're interested.
The beginning of the end... I can't believe that the doors to our
restaurant will open shortly! Wow, it's a dream come true and I feel
like we're finally nearing that place over the rainbow. Thanks for
helping to make it a reality. We look forward to welcome and serving
you, our raison d'etre, in our new space. See you there! Caroline
